Sleeping too long…

Lippmann, who coined the term “Manufactured Consent” – later taken over by Chomsky – wrote this excerpt in the early 1920’s. Now take into consideration the internet; in other words multiply this by a thousand.

“Within the life of the generation now in control of affairs, persuasion has become a self-conscious art and a regular organ of popular government. None of us begins to understand the consequences, but it is no daring prophecy to say that the knowledge of how to create consent will alter every political calculation and modify every political premise. Under the impact of propaganda, not necessarily in the sinister meaning of the word alone, the old constants of our thinking have become variables. It is no longer possible, for example, to believe in the old original dogma of democracy; that the knowledge needed for the management of human affairs comes up spontaneously from the human heart. Where we act on that theory we expose ourselves to self-deception, and to forms of persuasion that we cannot verify. It has been demonstrated that we cannot rely upon intuition, conscience, or the accidents of casual opinion if we are to deal with the world beyond our reach.”
Walter Lippmann

“Does Lippmann want his political science fact-finders to hide the truth from the populace; i.e. to “manufacture consent” ? In distinguishing between the news and truth, he is clearly on the side of correcting misconceptions propagated by media: “…news and truth are not the same thing, and must be clearly distinguished.”

For my philosophically minded friends:

An argument directed at Jordan Peterson, and postmodern philosophy today. I’d be very interested in feedback pertaining to this video, and its! content. Video one hour.

Primary Text Sources–
Michel Foucault – Discipline and Punish
Jean Baudrillard – The Transparency of Evil
Jacques Derrida – On Grammatology
Peter Sloterdijk – A Critique of Cynical Reason
Richard Rorty – Achieving Our Country
Richard Rorty – Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity

So much of popular political argument is nested in tiny fragments extrapolated from fine thinkers whose works are taken apart, and “parts” utilized for whatever arguments are being brought forth, without so much as any serious investigation into said sources works; that are being hacked for the purpose of whatever agenda might be at hand by the hacker. This video is a fine example; a one hour argument properly being brought forward in both an intelligent and respectful manner from one individual, directed toward a bright light (in my opinion) in today’s town square (Jordan Peterson). For me the arguments hold water, and also has flaws, but the manner in which it’s presented should be a fine example how healthy, well thought arguments, can be presented.

Insanity…

Dave Rubin, a liberal political commentator is branded as a far right talking head by a writer with “Mother Jones” this week. Rubin is a gay, Atheist, married – to a man – liberal who’s being tarred and feathered by the left because of his willingness to bring right wing intellectuals to the conversation on his podcast – like it should be. This censorship of ideas is something that needs to be stopped in its tracks before freedom of speech becomes extinct, and the memory of such a freedom becomes eradicated. In Rubin’s words: “This Thinkquisition will come after anyone who bucks the trend and the stereotypes and dares think for themselves. It’s why they accuse Ayaan Hirsi Ali of being anti muslim, it’s why they slander Bill Maher as being racist, it’s why they call Larry Elder an Uncle Tom, and it’s why I can be branded a far right extremist.” If the youth of today want to march for something that’s going to preserve SOME freedom in SOME capacity; speech might be a good place to start. And they wonder why us liberals from yesteryear are jumping ship and looking for a log to hold onto. Unbelievable.

Addiction…

Here we are 2017 and still building soapboxes out of blood, sweat and tears, and the the dried up bones of our forefathers in order to continue, and maintain an elaborate lifestyle for these snake oil salesman – we so admire – to stand on and preach from, about freedom. The perpetuation of this insanity that allows for these Apes and Billy goats to live in their ivory towers – far away from the foul stinch they cultivate here and around the world – and continually hypnotize the masses into divisions that perpetuate their control, is unmistakably brilliant! and hanus at the same time. They captivate us with their sincerity, gain trust with their rhetoric, and bleed us to death with their greed and inhumanity. And yet! we continue to buy what they sell. Fabricated Bu** Sh** sprayed with cheap perfume to hide the stench. Soma is enticing to the senses; and what junkie doesn’t worship his or her dealer.

Time to take a good look in the mirror…

As bad as it is, that we have all allowed banks and corporations to place us in the position we are in today; truth is, we have not only allowed banks and corporations to place us in this position, but – in my view – we have compelled these banks, and these corporations to place us in this position, all in the name of consumerism; at any cost. As a collective “we” always turn our eyes away from the ugly – especially if it’s not on our soil – as long as we have an abundance of gas to burn “at will” for our SUV’s, Nike’s on our feet, food to waste &c. I believe we have mastered the art of Scapegoating as a culture, and now we are at the beginning of having to witness the fallout of our insatiable appetites. Bertrand Russell I believe had it right.

“It is a natural propensity to attribute misfortune to someone’s malignity. When prices rise, it is due to the profiteer; when wages fall, it is due to the capitalist. Why the capitalist is ineffective when wages rise, and the profiteer when prices fall, the man in the street does not inquire. Nor does he notice that wages and prices rise and fall together. If he is a capitalist, he wants wages to fall and prices to rise; if he is a wage earner, he wants the opposite. When a currency expert tries to explain that profiteers and trade unions and ordinary employers have very little to do with the matter, he irritates everybody, like the man who threw doubt on German atrocities. (In World War I) We do not like to be robbed of an enemy; we want someone to have when we suffer. It is so depressing to think that we suffer because we are fools; yet taking mankind in mass, that is the truth. For this reason, no political party can acquire any driving force except through hatred; it must hold someone to obloquy. If so-and-so’s wickedness is the sole cause of our misery, let us punish so-and-so and we shall be happy. The supreme example of this kind of political thought was the Treaty of Versailles. Yet most people are only seeking some new scapegoat to replace the Germans.”

The lullaby…

Cointelpro, McCarthyism, The War on Drugs from the 80’s came to mind, along with today’s race for the White House. At this stage of the game here in the U.S. I think we have to be extremely careful what band wagon we decide to climb onto, as they both seem, very! extreme, very! contrived, and very! dangerous…With a Media driven culture owned by BIG corporations, linked to wall street and our Government – that, along with, bumper stickers and memes being the primary intellectual information source we have at our disposal these days – I feel we might be on thin ice.
I find myself as guilty of falling into these cold waters as anyone else; repetition from news feeds – sound bites – 24/7 being converted to conversation; the masses become Inadvertently a devilish means of “people management” for these Apes and Billygoats ruling the roost. Everyone from the blue collar worker to the scholar are exposed, and inflicted, (for the most part) by this barrage, this social engineering, this cultural assault.
Old tricks, new techniques, same outcome. They wine and dine, look us deep in the eyes, and sing us to sleep; then we wake up the next morning finding our homes have been robbed, our innocents taken, and a five dollars bill left on our nightstand along with a thank you note with no phone number. And! if that’s not enough, they come back four years later and do it all over again.
Gotta hand it to um,
they’re good,
really good.

Hard times…

Well, here we are 2016; near 50 years from the last time I have seen this kind of built up pressure getting ready to explode within our culture – for real. I was only 12 or 13 the last time this occurred, but I remember it like it was yesterday.

Same energy.
Same problems.
Same bullshit media.
Same puppet masters
Pulling everyone’s strings
To have them dance for their pleasure.

The only difference I can remember was the broadcasts were mostly in black and white, or a dingy diffuse color, from the lack of technology back in the day.

But, nothing new under the sun.

Same denial.
Same ethnicities.
Same mass hypnosis.
Same political pimping and pandering
By the very same pimps and whores
That sell us on their compassion and competence today.

The election, the media, the meme’s, the miscalculated published stats hurled into the social media culture to inflame this side or that, all put into hypermode; this polarization needed to keep everything status quo, and business as usual – is – bought with the blood of families and friends – either here or abroad – hate and distrust is the glue that keeps it all together.

We’re all victims here
We’re all perpetrators.
7.5 Billion worlds walking the planet.
Each world projecting itself, on to the next
Because each world can’t endure its own pain.
Time to take responsibility, and learn to love ourselves.

Project that! The Apes and Billy goats will suffocate from lack,
and fade off into history as they gasp for their last dying breaths of oxygen. In the mean time, try not to feed the animals.

Hug a enemy – he or she might be your brother or sister…
